The women’s wing in Amaekpu Ohafia—often organized locally as Inyom Amaekpu Ohafia or the Amaekpu Development Union (ADU) Women’s Wing—is a powerful community-based grassroots organization. It plays an essential role in local governance, cultural preservation, social welfare, and community development.
Roles and Authority
- Community Policing & Discipline: The women and Umuada (daughters of the community) hold traditional authority to maintain peace, enforce moral standards, and protect community elders.
- Development & Welfare: The wing spearheads self-help projects, sanitation, and support systems for vulnerable groups, widows, and the elderly
- Annual August Meetings: Like most Ohafia communities, the home and diaspora branches of Amaekpu women mobilize heavily every August for their annual homecoming, focusing on local development initiatives, civic engagement, and empowering indigent families.
Sociopolitical Engagement
- The leadership of Inyom Amaekpu actively engages with political and humanitarian leaders to advocate for community amenities, youth empowerment, and educational support (such as scholarship and exam fee sponsorships).
